Ingredients

Brown sugar

Water

Butter or butter substitute

Cream of tartar

Vinegar

Vanilla

Puffed rice

Directions

  1. Combine water, sugar, cream of tartar, vinegar, and butter.
  2. Boil to hard crack stage (285 - 290 F).
  3. Remove from fire.
  4. Add flavoring and rice.
  5. Stir until all the grains are coated.
  6. Pour into well-buttered pan.
  7. Spread in a thin sheet.
  8. Let cool.
  9. Break in pieces.
